Hotel Camera is a new and unique concept, combining retail and restoration of classic cameras along with photographic publications, focusing on analogue photography. In a major move away from the current celebrity culture and social media, Hotel Camera will concentrate on the fine art of photography, enabling photographers to create beautiful photographs and impressive fine art prints that are worthy of enduring display.

This original concept also expands into photographic holidays which entail access to a fine collection of classic film cameras, all within the wonderful setting of the Malaga mountains,in Andalucia. This enables Hotel Camera to create a one-stop shop for all your analogue photographic needs and experience.

Our founder, Matthew Hancock, has worked in the photography and heritage industries for over 30 years, having photographed many historical events and figures and worked for major photographic and digital imaging companies, such as Getty Images, Metro Newspaper and Quantel. Matthew has also worked for heritage organisations, including the British Museum, the Royal Armouries and Bonham’s Auctioneers.

Taking inspiration from his international professional experience, Matthew, with his partners, has founded Hotel Camera to create a working camera museum. Hotel Camera will exist to give photographers access to a wide range of fine and rare cameras alongside historical photographic equipment.

Currently, the focus is on building the online Camera Shops this will support the building of the camera collection for the museum.

Our Story

Matthew conceived the concept of a working camera museum while studying for a restoration and conservation degree, in 2008. The philosophy behind his concept was that most photographers find it impossible to acquire all the cameras, lenses and photographic equipment they would love to use.

Hotel Camera will combine a museum of film cameras, available for hire, with a high-quality hotel service and provision of delicious local produce. Photographic activities for our guest photographers will include photographic tuition alongside one-to-one dark room mentoring; this will enable photographers to create beautiful prints that they want to keep and display.

Hotel Camera will also take the concept further to include photographic publications and retail of classic cameras to fund the collection. Our service will eventually create the full package to meet all the analogue photographer’s needs.
